In year-over-year measurements, the Canadian hotel industry’s occupancy ended the week with a 4.5-percent increase to 55.7 percent, its average daily rate rose 2.1 percent to CAD$123.58 and its revenue per available room was up 6.6 percent to CAD$68.84.

Overall in 2012, the U.S. hotel industry’s occupancy is expected to rise 0.5 percent to 60.4 percent, its average daily rate is projected to be up 3.8 percent to US$105.45 and its revenue per available room is planned to increase 4.3 percent to US$63.68.

Total hotel property transactions in 2011 amounted to US$14.0 billion, compared to $8.6 billion in 2010, according to data from STR Analytics. This is a 62.8-percent increase over 2010.
