Super 8 President Announces Plans to Improve System Quality |
|
Calling on owners and operators to 'continue winning along the way,' Super 8 President John Valletta today outlined a plan to drive additional revenue to the chain's more than 2,000 motels while improving system quality. |
In his address to the more than 1,000 franchisees attending the Super 8 Motels International Conference here, Valletta said those goals would be accomplished 'through unprecedented levels of field support and a renewed emphasis on consistency and compliance with quality standards.'
In addition, Super 8 Motels will tighten quality assurance scoring and add more automatic failure categories on Oct. 1, he said.
To help franchisees comply with brand standards, the Super 8 staff conducted general manager orientation training at 15 locations last year and will offer 24 classes across the United States and Canada this year.
Valletta announced that general managers attending Super 8 orientation training now will be offered the opportunity to earn the American Hotel & Lodging Association's prestigious Certified Hotel Administrator or Certified Hospitality Supervisor designations at no additional charge.
Another new optional service offered to Super 8 franchisees will allow trainers to travel to individual motels to conduct general manager training, eliminating the need for managers to travel to the Cendant Hotel Group offices in Parsippany, N.J., or wait for training to be held in the field. Super 8 general managers also now can get their training and certification on the Internet if they take an online evaluation and qualify.
Valletta hailed the success of a Cendant Hotel Group initiative launched last year to double field support staff, saying that the 'personalized field-based services' are helping Super 8 franchisees 'capture greater market share, drive revenue and improve quality and consistency.'
To encourage the development of quality motels, Valletta announced an incentive package that will make ground-up construction of a new Super 8 motel 'easier and less costly than ever.'
A new prototype design package will be offered free to developers. 'This basic design plan will be ready for the architect to tailor to a specific site, saving tens of thousands of dollars in architect fees,' he said.
Noting its 'overwhelming success' last year's, Valletta said the Super 8 $500 per-key development incentive has been extended for another year.
In response to consumer demand, Valletta said a new chainwide breakfast standard would be implemented March 1. 'The new SuperStart® Breakfast standard was created in direct response to guest feedback,' he said.
