VANCOUVER, March 14 /CNW/ - Tourism Vancouver has launched a major
program to engage residents in helping to boost tourism in Greater Vancouver
and others parts of British Columbia. Called Invite the World, the promotion
is modelled after a similar campaign launched in 1985 that helped Expo 86
become one of the most successful world's fairs ever, consequently putting
Vancouver on the world tourism map.
Invite the World is a viral marketing campaign that encourages
Vancouverites and British Columbians to become ambassadors and invite friends
from all over the globe to experience our Spectacular by Nature scenery,
incredible attractions, international calibre events, world renowned cuisine,
thriving arts & culture scene, and more.
Ambassadors simply send an e-postcard from www.tourismvancouver.com to a
friend anywhere outside of BC, inviting them to Vancouver. By doing so, the
resident automatically is entered into a weekly draw to win a fabulous tourism
package consisting of weekend getaways, dinners, tickets to major events and
attractions, and other prizes.
The promotion not only offers a chance for BC residents to win, it also
instils the kind of pride in our city and province that is needed to help
tourism, one of our primary economic engines, to recover after a difficult
year, said Tourism Vancouver Chair Patrick Kelly. Through information on our
website and our partners, we also believe residents will rediscover all of the
fun things there are to see and do with their friends and family in Vancouver
this year.
To date, several partners have embraced the Invite the World campaign to
spread the message to British Columbia to respond to the call. BC Lotteries
and CanWest Global (publishers of the Sun & Province newspapers and owners of
Global BCTV, Canada.com) are among the key participants to help leverage the
marketing opportunities.
Tourism Vancouver's focus is on building exceptional customer
relationships with meeting planners, travel influencers, travel media and
independent tourists. Our efforts generate demand for the destination, thereby
creating value for members and stakeholders. Innovation, partnership, research
and accountability guide our approach. We utilize person-to-person and
technology-based sales, marketing and visitor servicing activities to achieve
results. Through positive positioning of both the organization and the
destination, our leadership benefits the society, culture, environment and
economy of Greater Vancouver.
