|
PARADISE ISLAND, The Bahamas --- Stephen Sawyer, one of the Bahamas' most experienced hoteliers, has returned to Paradise Island to take the position of senior vice president and general manager of Coral and Beach Towers at Atlantis, Paradise Island. |
In the early 1980's, Sawyer served as general manager of the prestigious Ocean Club, then a 70-room luxury hotel and now owned and operated, along with Atlantis, by Kerzner International. While at the Ocean Club, he presided over major improvements and renovations as well as supervision of the Paradise Island golf course.
Sawyer left Paradise Island in 1989 to join the Carnival Crystal Palace Casino & Golf Resort in its development stages. As vice president of hotel operations, Sawyer was responsible for all the budgeting, new hiring, pre-opening and operations of the resort. Later he was general manager of the Wyndham Ambassador Beach Hotel and the Radisson Cable Beach Resort.
A native of the Bahamas, Sawyer began his career in 1973 at the Nassau Beach Hotel while still studying at Westminster's Hotel School in London. By 1977 he had been named general manager of the South Ocean Beach Hotel & Golf Club and two years later joined Zemi's Hotel, where he converted the all-inclusive resort to a hotel operation under the name of The Bahamas Beach Hotel.
Sawyer has been very active in numerous Bahamian and Caribbean tourism organizations, including the Caribbean Hotel Association, the Bahamas Hotel Association, the Nassau, Cable Beach, Paradise Island Promotion Board, the Ministry of Tourism Product Improvement Task Force and the Bahamas Hotel Employers Association. Awards in recognition of his leadership in the industry include Hotelier of the Year from the Caribbean Hotel Association and the Bahamas Hotel Association.
"We are thrilled that Stephen will bring his years of experience and knowledge to the Coral and Beach Towers at Atlantis, Paradise Island," said Paul O'Neil, CEO for Kerzner International Bahamas Ltd.
