The Vallehermoso Group has invested more than 18.5 million euros in the construction of the hotel
Thursday, 23rd. January, 2003. Tonight, the Spanish hotel company Sol Meliá and the Vallehermoso Group will be officially inaugurating the new 4-star Tryp Barcelona Airport Hotel, located alongside the El Prat International Airport, just 10 kilometers from the center of Barcelona. The event will be attended by the Assistant Director General of Tourism of the Catalonia Government, Javier Sobrino; the Mayor of El Prat de Llobregat, Lluís Tejedor Ballesteros; the Executive Vice President of Sol Meliá’s European Division, Andrés Encinas; the Chief Executive Officer of Testa, Fernando Rodríguez-Avial and the Hotel General Manager, Enrique Portales, amongst others.
The Vallehermoso Group, through its subsidiary Patrimonio Testa, has invested more than 18.5 million euros in the construction of the Tryp Barcelona Airport Hotel, and the hotel has joined the Sol Meliá chain through a lease agreement. Sol Meliá and Vallehermoso also have similar arrangement for the Tryp Alameda (Malaga), Tryp Jerez (Cadiz) and, from May, 2003, the Tryp Reino de Valencia.
The Tryp Barcelona Airport Hotel, designed by the Catalan architect Carlos Ferrater, provides 205 rooms, a breakfast buffet, an “à la carte” restaurant, lobby bar, fitness center, private car park for 145 vehicles and free airport transfers. This modern hotel also provides almost 400 square meters of meeting space in its 7 event rooms, all equipped with the latest modern technology and energy-saving features.

The opening of the Tryp Barcelona Airport Hotel is another step towards achieving Sol Meliá’s growth objectives in Spain, and especially in and around Barcelona, a city which has seen a spectacular increase in visits by both business and leisure travelers since it hosted the Olympic Games back in 1992. According to the local tourism authorities, in 2002 more than 3.5 million tourists stayed overnight in the city, an increase of 6% over the previous year. The number of hotel stays increased by 10.1% over the same period to more than 8.7 million.
The deal also promotes another of the company’s marketing strategies aimed at raising awareness of the Tryp brand both in Spain and abroad through the addition of new hotels to the brand. The Tryp Barcelona Airport Hotel becomes hotel number 105 for the Tryp brand, of which 63 are located in Spain.
