Columbia Marriott welcomed Kendall Clay as new General Manager of the Marriott property. He brings with him 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry and his appointment is set to bring forth some exciting enhancements to the luxury hotel, located in the heart of downtown Columbia, SC.
Originally from Dayton, OH, Kendall graduated from Ashland University with a Bachelor's in Hotel Restaurant Management. He gained invaluable experience during his time in the Management Trainee Program at the Atlanta Airport Marriott as well as his time at the Atlanta Marriott Northwest at the Galleria. He's served the Columbia market for four years and has been a GM for 12 years. His philosophy is to take care of his associates, so that his associates are better able to take care of hotel guests and attend to their varied needs.
"Kendall always has the guests' experience in mind with every decision he makes," said Nancy Wagner, fellow associate. "He is quick to find and implement opportunities for enhancement to our services." He has received recognition over the years for his numerous achievements, including GM of the Year with Hilton Hotels in 2008 and Manager of the Year with the Atlanta Airport Marriott.
Kendall currently leads a team of 175 associates at the hotel, located near the Columbia, SC State House and other area sights. The property offers spacious, newly remodeled guest rooms, and an enhanced lobby, updated meeting spaces and restaurant and bar. The announcement of Clay as the hotel's new GM sets up the property to take advantage of its updates in new and innovative ways, as the staff works to distinguish the guest experience at the popular downtown location.
