Downtown San Diego Receives Its First Staybridge Suites Hotel |

Historical five-story property is the first Staybridge Suites hotel to open in 2004 |
Staybridge Suites Hotels has opened the doors of its newest hotel in San Diego, Calif. The 68-room all-suite hotel in San Diego, is the 72nd addition to the brand's growing portfolio of extended-stay hotels.
Originally built in 1928 as one of the first luxury hotel and apartment facilities in downtown San Diego, the completely renovated hotel is owned by 12th & "A" Hotel Partners, LP, an affiliate of Shapery Enterprises, and managed by InterContinental Hotels Group Resources, Inc., is operated under a license agreement with a company in the InterContinental Hotels Group.
"We are pleased to announce the grand opening of the first Staybridge Suites hotel in downtown San Diego," said Jim Anhut, senior vice president, brand management, Staybridge Suites hotels. "This hotel is the third Staybridge Suites hotel to open in San Diego County in the last two years and our ninth hotel in California. With the addition of the San Diego development to the existing portfolio of hotels and the more than 50 in development, the Staybridge Suites brand continues to move forward on a path of accelerated growth," said Anhut.
The $13 million all-suite historic property is located in downtown San Diego at the entrance of I-5 and SR-163 just minutes from key area attractions, which include Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, Seaport Village, Horton Shopping Plaza, the historic Gaslamp District and Padres Baseball Park. Several key businesses are also close by, such as Lockheed Martin, AT & T and Balboa Park Navy Hospital.
The 48,000-sq. ft. property is a five-story, Italian Renaissance-style building adorned with red brick. The hotel's interior features art deco throughout the public areas and a new 3,000-sq. ft. rooftop deck with enchanting pergolas and a bar area with panoramic views of downtown San Diego and the bay. Guests can choose from three suite options (deluxe studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom/2 bath). All suites feature in-room DVD/CD players, functional, well-lit work stations with ergonomic seating, fully equipped kitchens, data ports, two-line speaker phone with voicemail and direct dial access and high-speed internet access is also available at no charge. Future plans include the construction of a 112-suite addition to the hotel later this year, which will bring the suite count up to 180 upon completion of construction.
The newly renovated hotel offers several unique amenities such as complimentary guest laundry and workout facilities, deluxe complimentary breakfast buffet which features two hot items and a 24-hour business services center. In addition, guests will enjoy gathering in the hotels' Great Room for nightly "Sundowners" receptions for refreshments, light appetizers and conversation. The Staybridge Suites Riviera Hotel-San Diego Downtown offers more than 800-sq. ft. of meeting space.
