Caribbean And Mexican Hotel Rooms Under Construction For June 2016 Down 4.6 Percent over 2015

STR’s June 2016 Pipeline Report shows 28,580 rooms in 180 projects Under Contract in the Caribbean/Mexico region. The total represents a 4.5% decrease in rooms Under Contract compared with June 2015 and a 4.6% year-over-year decrease in rooms In Construction.

Under Contract data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Unconfirmed stage.

The region reported 11,983 rooms in 76 projects In Construction for the month.

Among Chain Scale segments, the Upscale segment accounted for the largest portion of rooms Under Contract (22.9% with 6,535 rooms).

The Luxury segment accounted for the largest percentage of rooms In Construction (23.3% with 2,794 rooms). Upper Midscale (20.9% with 2,507 rooms) was the only other segment to represent 20.0% or more of rooms In Construction.
