    This book is a classic observational study of the effects of man-made chemicals on the natural world. Carson, a biologist and writer, turned her attention to the natural consequences of the new practices of trying to control insect pests with chemical treatments. She begins the book by explaining the chemistry behind the commonly used agricultural chemicals such as DDT and Parathion.
