A Good Start but Rather Brief
Helen Little has created a nice, although slim, book on how to manage volunteers. She breaks the task out into these sections: * creating a specific task with start and end
* make sure task matches their interests
* make sure task has value
* write down instructions
* provide deadline
* have open time to task completion
* provide all supplies for task

You don't need this book, I promise
Unless you've never been a volunteer, never worked with a volunteer, and/or never heard of the word "volunteer", you do not need this book. A volunteer leader MUST READ
Wow, what a concise and comprehensive approach to volunteer recruiting and development! I was looking for guidance to find and develop new volunteer leaders for several organizations. I've read good reviews about this book, so I gave it a shot. I was IMPRESSED! You can read through this book overnight and apply the practices the next day. I am already reaping the fruit. This was just what I needed.

Sound advice
"Volunteers - how to get them, how to keep them" offers sound and down-to-earth advice on what to do and how to do it when you want to run a volunteer-driven enterprise. The relatively short book (117p) packs in a good bunch of tips & tools. The book has no ambition in being an academic treatise on the subject.
