Customer Review: I haven't had this book for more than a month and already I've used it a ton. I love the layout and the great tips. There isn't any topic I can think of that he doesn't cover. It's a great, great book.
Customer Review: I, like some of the other reviewers, am not a vegetarian but I am trying to eat healthier and with fewer animal fats in my diet (it is also significantly cheaper to base meals around farmer's market vegetables and beans). What I love the most about this book is that I can go to the farmer's market... more info
Customer Review: Since Mark Bittman emphasizes 'simple,' recipes often turn out bland or ho-hum. It seems that recipes were not always thoroughly tested, as cook times are frequently off, especially in regards to baked goods. Sometimes, Bittman's tone is condescending. He dismisses canned chicken broth over "water... more info
Customer Review: Mark Bittman is FANTASTIC. I can enthusiastically recommend any of his books, and this one is no exception. This book has more of a "world cuisine" focus than his others, and is a great resource for someone trying to venture out into new culinary territory.
Customer Review: The book has lots of recipes -- and they look relatively easy for someone that already has cooking experience and the text is informative as well. Customer Review: A simple, straight-forward book that might be useful for the absolute beginner. But for those even slightly beyond grilled cheese or spaghetti, go for the original, full-length version instead.
Customer Review: As with How to Cook Everything, many of Bittman's recipes could not have been tested before publishing and seem as though they were concocted at his desk.
Customer Review: The cover was a little more worn then I would have liked, and not glossy like the library book I had (was hoping it would be glossy, but it could just be a different release), but overall good condition. I am glad to have this cookbook, it has lots of yummy recipes.
Customer Review: In my opinion this is one of the greatest cookbooks out there. What I especially love is the quirky illustrations that go along with the recipes. The cover opens up to a 4 panel chart which is also great! This would make a great gift for anyone who enjoys food and/or art.
