Travel Price Index Increases 3.5 Percent in May |

The Travel Price Index (TPI) for the month of May 2007 rose 3.5 percent compared to May 2006. Gasoline prices were up 9.4 percent from April and 5.9 percent from one year ago. |
Lodging prices were up 4.5 percent compared to May 2006 and decreased 0.6 percent from last month. Airfares decreased 1.0 percent against twelve months earlier and increased 0.4 percent from previous month. The Consumer Price Index, or CPI-U, was up 2.7 percent from May 2006.
Developed by the Travel Industry Association of America's (TIA), the Travel Price Index (TPI) measures the seasonally unadjusted inflation rate of the cost of travel away from home in the United States. The TPI is based on U.S. Department of Labor price data collected for the monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI). The TPI is released monthly and is directly comparable to the CPI.
