News from Capitol Hill Helps Hoteliers Make Informed Decisions
AH&LA has launched a campaign to keep the industry informed on timely issues impacting their operations. The first edition of the “Lodging Insider Report” addresses key controversial issues on Capitol Hill, educating hoteliers on changing legislation, complying with new laws, and protecting your bottomline.
Issues include:
New Department of Labor regulations – DOL is targeting hotels for audits, and imposing fines and penalties for anything short of air-tight compliance.
Proposed federal legislation from online travel companies – OTCs are asking Congress to exempt them from paying occupancy taxes. If successful, hoteliers may be the ones making up the difference.
New Americans with Disabilities Act changes from the Department of Justice – Regulations apply to new construction and existing facilities and could incur significant costs to your property.
“Hoteliers should focus on these three issues as they will affect the way you do business,” said AH&LA Executive Vice President of Public Policy Marlene Colucci. “AH&LA is here to provide guidance on how to navigate these complex topics and serve as a strong voice for the industry in Washington.”

Additionally, due to hoteliers’ concerns regarding the healthcare bill, a free Webinar is available for download. AH&LA members get access to additional resources for implementing new procedures, affecting policy, and receiving timely updates.
