STR Global issued it's 2011 Global Construction Pipeline Report update for November:
Central and South America
The Central/South America hotel development pipeline comprises 196 hotels totalling 28,958 rooms.
Among the countries in the region, Panama reported the largest expected growth (64.4 percent) if all 7,593 rooms in the country’s total active pipeline open. Other countries to report significant growth include: Paraguay (+16.2 percent with 300 rooms); Colombia (+11.1 percent with 2,056 rooms); Costa Rica (+7.4 percent with 1,306 rooms); Brazil (+7.3 percent with 12,775 rooms); and El Salvador (+7.3 percent with 200 rooms).
Caribbean and Mexico
The Caribbean/Mexico hotel development pipeline comprises 131 hotels totalling 17,923 rooms.
Among the region’s countries, Haiti reported the largest expected growth (45.0 percent) if all 753 rooms in the total active pipeline open. Other countries to report a significant growth in existing supply: Anguilla (+28.8 percent with 220 rooms); Dominica (+13.5 percent with 90 rooms); St. Kitts/Nevis (+11.7 percent with 235 rooms); and Turks and Caicos (+10.2 percent with 327 rooms).
Middle East and Africa
The Middle East/Africa hotel development pipeline comprises 494 hotels totalling 133,705 rooms.
Among the key countries in the region, the United Arab Emirates reported the largest number of rooms in the In Construction phase with 21,238 rooms. Four other countries reported more than 3,000 rooms under construction: Saudi Arabia (11,270 rooms); Qatar (5,544 rooms); Egypt (4,807 rooms); and Jordan (3,758 rooms).
Europe
The Europe hotel development pipeline comprises 869 hotels totalling 139,006 rooms.
Among the Chain Scale segments, the Upscale segment accounted for the largest portion of rooms in the region’s total active pipeline with 21.8 percent and 30,369 rooms. Three other segments each made up more than 10 percent of rooms in the total active pipeline: the Upper Midscale segment (19.2 percent with 26,726 rooms); the Unaffiliated segment (19.2 percent with 26,755 rooms); and the Upper Upscale segment (15.0 percent with 20,802 rooms).

Asia Pacific
The Asia/Pacific hotel development pipeline comprises 1,443 hotels totalling 348,653 rooms.
Year-to-date 2011, 361 properties have opened in the region with 64,269 rooms. In the remainder of 2011, 38 projects are expected to open with 8,993 rooms. In 2012, 559 projects are expected to open in the region with 139,432 rooms and in 2013, there are 395 projects planned to open with 97,312 rooms.
In the remaining two months of 2011, the Luxury segment is expected to open the most rooms with nine properties totalling 3,022 rooms, followed by the Upscale segment (eight properties with 2,287 rooms); the Upper Upscale segment (eight properties with 1,921 rooms); and the Upper Midscale segment (six properties with 1,226 rooms).
